Science for Peace
IHTEC partners with Science for Peace (SfP) in it's SfP "Working Group on Peace and Sustainability Education" and has done so together with the Council on Global Issues, in a five way video conference on October 13, 2004. The working group was set up by the SfP Board.

'PNYV : Positive News Youth Views is the first activated element. This multilingual Online Magazine for Youth Leadership & Changemaking' and its 'Positive News Boards' serve to facilitate the easy installation of ISLEs : Informal Sustainability Learning Environments in schools worldwide. It comes with a bundle of best practice curricula, learning programs and youth-led instruments for positive changemaking.

Talking Communities
IHTEC's conference room application is supported by George Buys of Talking Communities. TC offers multimedia web conferencing rooms and solutions for sharing ideas, educating, training and motivating at low cost using standard computer and internet facilities. TC's easy to use software allows the sharing of websites, pictures, slide-show presentations and excellent voice conversations. Sessions can be recorded for archiving and sharing purposes.

Earth Day
"The vernal equinox calls on all mankind to recognize and respect Earth’s beautiful systems of balance, between the presence of animals on land, the fish in the sea, birds in the air, mankind, water, air, and land. Most importantly there must always be awareness of the actions by people that can disturb this precious balance." Earth Day is celebrated on the Spring Equinox on March 20/21, a date of celebration in cultures around the world. Since 1970, it is being celebrated with the ringing of Peace Bells at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and capitals around the world. This omnicultural day of celcebration makes a perfect date for anchoring sustainability learning in schools.

United States Canada Peace Anniversary Association (USCPAA)
was founded for nurturing intercultural understanding between Canada and the USA as a basis for peaceful cooperation between nations. The Peace Arch is the only international gateway ever erected in the interest of peace among nations. It was constructed on the boundary between Blaine, Washington and Douglas, British Columbia, and dedicated in 1921 by Samuel Hill, a Washington businessman and philanthropist.

The Association supports some outstanding activities for peace education in schools and communities involving sculptures and the arts.

The Canadian Association of Principals

The Canadian Association of Principals (CAP) represents and serves the Principals and Vice-Principals of schools across Canada. The Association is comprised of provincial associations from each province, each being an active partner in the educational decision-making process in each province or territory. CAP supports education, students and its members by organizing a variety of special projects, many of which are funded by federal government departments, companies and other organizations. The primary strength of CAP in such projects is its ability to communicate with school-based administrators, who often are the gatekeepers for educational innovations.






The Canadian School Boards Association

The Canadian School Boards Association, the national voice of school boards, is composed of nine provincial school board associations representing over 400 school boards serving more than four million elementary and secondary school students. CSBA exercises leadership by advocating excellence in public education and promoting the value of locally elected school boards through collaborations, research and information sharing with other partners.









The Canadian Teachers' Federation

The Canadian Teachers' Federation was created in 1920 to ensure that, as teachers, our opinion was heard and taken into account whenever any authority outside the provincial jurisdiction was considering action which would affect us as teachers, or impinge on our work with students. That remains our primary goal today.

The Curriculum Research & Development Group (Hawaii)

The Curriculum Research & Development Group (CRDG), with its Education Laboratory School, is an organized research unit in the College of Education at the University of Hawai'i that conducts research and creates, evaluates, disseminates, and supports educational programs that serve students, teachers, parents, and other educators in grades pre-K-12. CRDG contributes to the body of professional knowledge and practice in teaching and learning, curriculum development, program dissemination and implementation, evaluation and assessment, and school improvement.






Ontario's Environmental Bill of Rights
Ontario's Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) declares that the people of Ontario recognize the inherent value of the natural environment and their right to a healthful environment. It says that the government has the primary responsibility to achieve these goals, and the people should have the means to ensure they are achieved.

On February 15th, 1994, Ontario's Premier Bob Rae launched the Province's historic "Environmental Bill of Rights" at West Humber Collegiate. The first International School Peace Gardens Peace Tree was presented to the Premier and subsequently planted in West Humber's School Peace Garden.






Green Teacher magazine

Green Teacher magazine was launched in late 1986 by Damian Randle, who at the time was the Education Officer of the Centre for Alternative Technology in the UK in mid-Wales. Focussing on environment and development education, the magazine aspired to present a compendium of articles and activities useful to K-12 educators across the English- speaking world. Regional addresses were established in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

In early 1991, two Toronto high school teachers, Tim Grant and Gail Littlejohn left their teaching positions to launch a Canadian edition of Green Teacher from their home office. They recruited regional editors from all Canadian provinces and territories. A growing US readership gradually led to the magazine's becoming more North American in scope. Green Teacher is currently establishing a network of US regional editors.






International Peace Gardens

International Peace Gardens began in 1990 when the City of Ottawa presented a Peace Garden to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the lasting friendship between the people of Canada and the United States. This began a chain of Peace Gardens presented to capital cities around the world. The International Peace Garden Foundation International Peace Garden Foundation was established in 1992 to coordinate these activities for international peace and friendship. The International Peace Garden Foundation offers opportunities for young people to broaden their knowledge of different cultures through the promotion of worldwide cultural exchange programs, including school-to-school and student-to-student projects.

International Peace Gardens are already in place in Ottawa, Washington, Warsaw, Berlin, Budapest, Strasbourg, Ljubljana, and Pretoria. Maputo, Mozambique, has been appointed as the 1998 International Peace Garden Recipient. Costa Rica has been the 1999 recipient.









The Evergreen Foundation

The Evergreen Foundation aims to involve schools, communities, governments and businesses in the process of transforming bleak asphalt, concrete and mown turf landscapes into healthier, more vibrant and more educational environments. The Learning Grounds Program focuses on transforming typically flat and barren concrete school grounds into dynamic learning environments.



The Green Brick Road

The Green Brick Road (GBR) is a non-profit organization which specializes in resources and information for students and teachers of global and environmental education. GBR works with many groups including Learning Through Landscapes, WWF-UK, the Evergreen Foundation and the Federation of Ontario Naturalists, along with the many other groups represented in our resource "Guide". We continue to seek out new partners i n promoting quality resources for environmental education.






Earth Friendly Gardens

In October 1997, Lynda Rotteau introduced the concept of "Kid's Kitchen Table". Since then, the project (which is modelled on International School Peace Gardens) has been re-named "Earth Friendly Gardens". Earth Friendly Gardens is designed to 'empower families to increase their economic independence and nutritional health through the creation of self-sustaining community gardens in area school yards'. The Green Tourism Association of Toronto

The Green Tourism Association of Toronto is a non-profit organisation committed to establishing an urban green tourism industry in Toronto. It works collaboratively with a network of businesses, community and environmental groups, government agencies, heritage and cultural organisations and individuals of common interest.









National Gardening Association

The National Gardening Association (NGA), founded in 1973, is a nonprofit leader in plant-based education. We serve a national audience with timely materials designed to foster an appreciation for the benefits of gardening.

Garden.org offers a wide variety of information on children getting involved in gardening activities.

Oceana

Oceana campaigns to protect and restore the world’s oceans. Their teams of marine scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates work for specific and concrete policy changes to reduce pollution and to prevent the irreversible collapse of fish populations, marine mammals and other sea life. Global in scope and dedicated to conservation, Oceana has campaigners based in North America (Washington, DC; Juneau, AK; Los Angeles, CA), Europe (Madrid, Spain; Brussels, Belgium) and South America (Santiago, Chile). More than 200,000 members and e-activists in over 150 countries have already joined Oceana.






The Peace Tree / Sandalwood Productions Inc.

'The Peace Tree' is a dramatic video which shares the message of uniting our diverse communities through our rich and vibrant celebrations, thereby preventing the rise in conflict and promoting peace.

'The Peace Tree' is entertaining, but also engagingly educational by dramatically exploring the thoughts of children from diverse cultures and faiths who are growing up in our multicultural land. Without bias or prejudice, our children share their voices of their vision of a country of peace where every child can join hand in hand to celebrate all our vibrant festivals together and live in peace.

The International Institute of Concern for Public Health

IICPH is a Canadian-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities assess and improve their environmental health status. The IICPH alerts and informs the public of the health hazards of pesticides, nuclear industries and other commercial, military, and industrial products. As well -- independent of government and industry -- the Institute provides the evidence and documentation needed by survivors of environmental disasters. This unique and essential service both supports and furthers the key principle on which the IICPH operates: that a safe environment is a fundamental human right.

IICPH works in cooperation with Native Peoples, professionals, grassroots organizations, and citizens groups in Canada, the United States, Russia, the Central Pacific, India, South America, Europe, South Africa, and many other countries.






Future Aces - Herbert Carnegie Foundation

Herbert H. Carnegie, Founder of the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation, was honoured on March 30th, 2006, for the 50th Anniversary of the writing of the Future Aces Creed. The Creed contains twelve positive statements or, as Herb calls them, rules for life. He wrote them to help himself overcome the anger he felt when he did not get chosen for the National Hockey League because of his colour. Today the Creed is used in schools from Canada to China, Barbados, Africa; it affects over 60000 students annually. IHTEC has participated with Future Aces at two leadership conferences; in friendship, they are promoting each other's programs. Dianne Leggatt is an Education Facilitator, and a retired principal, who continues fostering the Creed with Future Aces Executive Director Bernice Carnegie, Education Director, Vivian Shapiro ... and, of course, Founder, Herbert H. Carnegie.






Airline Ambassadors International
Airline Ambassadors International (AAI) (Website: http://www.airlineamb.org) is a non-profit organization affiliated with the United Nations and recognized by the US Congress. It is a network of airline employees and others who volunteer as "Ambassadors of Goodwill" in their home communities and abroad. Members share their unique skills and talents to care for others and bring compassion into action.

AAI provides humanitarian aid to children and families in need as well as relief and development to under-privileged communities worldwide. We escort children in need, hand-deliver humanitarian aid to orphanages, clinics, and remote communities, assist at special events and involve youth in humanitarian efforts around the world.

IHTEC has been a member of AAI since the IIPT Third Global Conference, Sustainable Tourism, held in Glasgow in October 17 - 21. 1999. On March 24, 2000 Airline Ambassadors transported and donated exercise books, art materials and to the David Alfredo School, Puerto Morelos, Mexico. These were given to the teachers at a high level event with the Premier of Quintana Roo. At the same time Award Cups were given to six children, who won the ISPG International Music Award 2000, with their song “Los Desees de la Paz”.






Ecoclubes
Ecoclubs (Website: http://ecoclubes.org/) is an international youth movement that promotes citizen participation. Ecoclubs are democratic civic organizations, composed of children and youth that interact with other community institutions to work towards the improvement in the quality of life of the population. In a joint effort with other institutions, their public awareness campaigns utilize participatory strategies searching for neighbors' involvement in the implementation of proposals that may be evaluated in a practical manner and that are characterized by their support.






IJGD - Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienstse
ijgd (International Youth Community Services) (Website: http://ijgd.de) are a non-profit organization independent of any religious or political party. We organise volunteer service programmes in Germany and abroad which can last between 2 weeks and 18 months.

Our aim is to forward young people's awareness of social conditions. By developing a feeling of social responsibility, young people will be able to make their own decisions in a democratic social environment, to act responsibly and to promote international understanding and cooperation.

Our aims thus include the promotion of international understanding and the reduction of prejudice between people of different nations, social backgrounds, religions and political ideas.






Water & Youth - First International Meeting
"Water & Youth - first international meeting" in Buenos Aires / Argentina / April 2007 (Website: http://www.waterandyouth.org) is the world's first international conference on youth and water themes. Uniting more than 300 international organisations and more than 450 participants from 40+ countries, it is geared to nurturing significant positive impulses to this vital issue.







AFS Intercultural Programs



AFS (Website: www.afs.org) is one of the world’s largest community-based volunteer organizations dedicated to building a more just and peaceful world through international student exchange. More than 11,000 students, young adults and teachers participate in AFS programs each year.



World Spirit Forum
World Spirit Forum (http://www.worldspiritforum.org) intends to have spiritual and religious and political and social activists gather and develop the plan for a unified humanity with equity and solutions for global concerns. Aims include networking and learning about the work of others in making for a more sustainable, equitable planet. There is a building momentum as people meet and dialogue about projects and initiatives that are helping to enhance the lives of all on the planet. In many ways the WSF World Spirit Forum is part of an emerging evolutionary revolution of consciousness. In its global scope it is a parallel event to the WEF World Economic Forum that is held at nearby Davos at about the same time. Still, being an independent organization - legally and in its philosophy, the WSF is bound to influence the thinking and decision making of political and economic leaders at the WEF and elsewhere towards driving this revolution of consciousness.






The World Spirit Youth Council
The World Spirit Youth Council (www.children-of-the-earth.org) is an international coalition of young leaders dedicated to creating world peace through spiritually-oriented peacebuilding. The coalition, organized as a project of Children of the Earth, was founded by youth delegates at the 2nd annual (2005) World Spirit Forum in Arosa, Switzerland.

Associacion Orion

Redepaz - Education for Peace
The Education for Peace, Globalnet, is an initiative of citizens who assume their responsibilities for the planet, for the preservation of life, and for the development of knowledge. In the year 2000 it organized its first International Meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, dedicated to The Future of Our Children with the sponsorship of UNESCO and The University of Geneva. One hundred institutions from twenty two countries of four continents reported on their projects related to children and youth.

The aim of this program is to foster and nurture the globalnet as a world action and learning community. The gateway www.redepaz.org is designed to provide a personalized area for each participating project, interactive spaces and devices to implement cooperation in a world scale.

EcoSource http://www.ecosource.ca is an innovative environmental organization bringing green living to their communities. They specialize in fun, hands-on programs that focus on how each of us can change our daily habits to become better environmental citizens.
